Happy Pi Day!

Happy Pi Day!
Every year, March 14 is Pi Day.

Congratulations! Today, March 14, is Pi Day. The importance of 𝜋 cannot be underestimated. In fact, 𝜋 truly deserves to be celebrated. I recommend doing this by sharing the joy of 𝜋 with a bit more than 3 friends from your inner circle. Bake a pie and enjoy it together while walking in circles! To the greater glory of 𝜋, and in the spirit of the celebration, here is a new metric: picent \[{}^{\pi}{\!\!} /{\!}_{0}.\]

Picentage is a relative measure that tells you how large one value is compared to another, using 100𝜋 as the reference scale. Picentage has many advantages, including:

  • Picentage brings more 𝜋 into the world and the world is a better place with more 𝜋.
  • Although \({}^{\pi}{\!\!} /{\!}_{0}\) is similar to %, a picentage is 𝜋 times larger than the equivalent percentage. Which is great! It makes picentage clearly superior to percentage.
  • Picentages have a direct and intuitive relation to pie charts. A pie contains exactly 100 portions of 𝜋 \({}^{\pi}{\!\!} /{\!}_{0}\). Even better, a pie with a radius of 10 makes each portion of 𝜋 \({}^{\pi}{\!\!} /{\!}_{0}\) being exactly as large as 𝜋. See the figure below.
Pie chart illustrating how intuitive picentage is.

Finally, to show the use of \({}^{\pi}{\!\!} /{\!}_{0}\) in practice and since it is Pi Day, there is a 100𝜋\({}^{\pi}{\!\!} /{\!}_{0}\) discount on watdoetu.nu memberships. So hit the subscribe button to stay up to date with everything you want need to know.
